[Pic 13] Cwm Machno Quarry - Internal Mills (Aug 1982)

The remains of the Internal Mill, taken from the tramway to the Trwnc inclines base. On the eastern (left) end was the water wheel. I'm guessing that even before the site closed for good (1962) this mill had been abandoned in favour of the external mill as a photo exists of the latter in use circa 1953. The ruinous end wall (to the left of the mill) was once part of another mill building.

Jump ahead four years and this was the view after the lower site was 'landscaped'. The pit has gone (filled with waste) and so has the walled embankment, plus the internal mills. Still standing are the external mill, the quarry office and the small building opposite it. Note the remaining section of the tramway route lower left of picture.

Looking up the main upper incline (its drumhouse is seen in pic 12) with its raised upper ramp and intermediate level. Note the steep road (that eventually leads south west across the hills to Rhiw Bach Quarry) and the retaining wall holding back the waste beside it.
