[Pic 7] Cwt y Bugail Slate Quarry - More rails (Sept 1987)

Similar view to Pic 6 but standing further back to show more of the rails still in place. As with the Rhiwbach Tramway these rails are laid to a (rough!) gauge of 1ft 11½ins - also the same as the Ffestiniog Railways gauge. There are some accounts that mention a 2ft 2ins gauge in the early days of work here (Diffwys Quarry also used this gauge early on) but, as with the rest of the quarries in the Ffestiniog area, it made sense to adopt the same gauge as the FR and its associated tramways.

[Pic 8] Cwt y Bugail Slate Quarry - Fork in the tramway (Sept 1987)

A short way on from Pic 7 is this fork in the tramway, with (left) a line going to opened out chambers in the north west corner of the pit, while the other (right) goes to a dead end at the north east corner of the pit. Note the U shaped block building, another large cylinder, and yet another metal wagon frame.

[Pic 9] Cwt y Bugail Slate Quarry - Eastern tramway (Sept 1987)

Pic 9 shows the eastern tramway to where it ends next to another U shaped building. Perched above this building is yet another metal cylinder - compressed air ?
