[Pic 12] Ratgoed Slate Quarry - Level 5 cutting (Sept 1987) This is the old level 5 cutting into the pits. The tramway route from here ran through all 3 pits, piercing through 2 pit walls to enter the furthest pit but parts of its course are either quarried away or buried. Within the pits (at around level 3) is a fine adit and next to (and above) the forestry road are two more older (but small) workings. |
[Pic 13] Ratgoed Slate Quarry - Valley floor (Sept 1987) Back down at the valley floor are the remains of numerous buildings including the lower mill, a small row of cottages and the site of a chapel. This area was also the terminus of the horse powered Ratgoed Tramway - the sole outlet for produce from here. |
[Pic 14] Ratgoed Slate Quarry - Ratgoed Tramway (Sept 1987) The final pic is a view looking south along the Ratgoed Tramway as it heads off towards Aberllefenni. Note the continuation of the fine slate block walling and the slate fencing that borders the route. |
