 [Pic 24] Cwmorthin Quarry - Floor 7 (1988)
From Floor 7 this view looks down the lower half of the 8-6 Main Incline
and also shows the (possible) tramway overbridge site on this level. Note the 6-1 Main Inclines Drumhouse (last seen in Pic 11) with the re-vamped
1980s Cross Mill down below in the valley bottom. Across the valley is the Wrysgan workings. |

[Pic 25] Cwmorthin Quarry - 'Beau Geste Fort' (1988)
During the 1920s Oakeley period a substantial Powder House was built on Level 7 (Close to the 6-1
Inclines Drumhouse) for the untopping work then being carried out. This is more often called the 'Beau Geste Fort' for obvious reasons. Both this
rare building - and the Main Incline - were wiped away during the 1990s untopping work. |

[Pic 26] Cwmorthin Quarry - Tai Muriau Incline II (1988)
Looking down (from the summit) the Tai Muriau Incline with a good view of the tramway route to the
Tan Y Grisiau incline away in the distance. Note the rock cutting needed at the top end and compare with Pic's 12 & 13 from 1985. |
