[Pic 31] Cwmorthin Quarry - View from Floor 5 (1995)
With the sun glinting on Llyn Cwmorthin, this is a view looking down at the lakeside area around the
Lake Adit (Floor 1 North). It offers a different view of the remaining stub of the old 5-1 Incline (and its overbridge site) as well as showing the
1930s electric powered incline up the old Floor 2 (North) tip - seen upper middle right. The building under the tree (right) was once a
barracks. |

Modern quarrying of Cwmorthin, with its blasting and heavy machinery, has ripped open a large section
of the upper workings - as can clearly be seen by this pic - and has meant moving large amounts of waste rock to get at the remaining good slate
underneath. This slate is mainly the roofs and pillars of old chambers long ago abandoned. |

Standing on the (buried) site of the Main 6-1 Incline, Pic 33 shows the rough unorderly modern
waste tip slowing covering the straighter (thanks to tramways) and more orderly old tips. |
